1. When is training and is it mandatory?
Training will be held approximately one month before the actual weekend. It will be on a Saturday at a location to be determined by the Moderator of that weekend, and the Steering Committee. Yes, attendance at training is mandatory. Since this program involves young adults from many cities and many colleges/universities and schedules are tight, it is important that we all meet and prepare adequately for the weekend.
2. What is the required arrival time at camp?
While we encourage all staff members to gather at a designated location on the Wednesday night before the weekend starts, all staff must be at the camp by 9:00 on the Thursday that begins the weekend. .
3. What is the cost?
We have set the cost at $150 for staff and $140 for participants, and includes meals from Thursday evening through Sunday lunch.
4. What preparation would a staff member need to make in advance of coming to the camp on the Thursday that begins the weekend?
Nothing different from what we ask all staff for Celebration and Cursillo…pray, write notes (the term is “mattea” in Pathways, Hebrew for “Gift from God”) for all staff and participants, and come prepared to serve.
5. Do you have a limit of the number you would accept from other communities outside of north Texas?
We have set no limits for staff. Although we want to encourage those with connections to north Texas to apply for staff each Pathways weekend, our primary goal is to adequately staff each weekend, so that the needs of the participants are met.
6. What experience must prospective staff have before applying?
Staff applicants must have been on staff of a Pathways, Celebration, Chrysalis, Cursillo or similar weekend to be eligible.
7. What is the obligation for each staff member to recruit participants?
There is no obligation to "recruit" participants, but as s new program, it will be important for all staff to encourage friends to fill out a participant registraion form. Obviously, without participants, no weekend can happen.
8. I know that North Texas Pathways has connections with Presbyterian Cursillo. Is Palhways restricted to members of Presbyterian Churches?
The Pathways program is open to all Christians.
9. I've heard that Pathways is for college students only. Does that mean if I'm not in college I can't apply to be on staff?
No. While most of the current interest in Pathways is from a number of college students, any young adult, age 18-29 is eligible to apply for staff, or to come as a participant.
10. Why are you developing a separate program for young adults instead of just having a Cursillo weekend focusing on this age group?
The organizing committee for Pathways believes that young adults respond best to retreats led by their peers. Prssbyterian Cursillo has not been a widely accepted program for young adults under the age of thirty, so Pathways has been developed for the targeted age group.
